HOW A PANDEMIC PROVED WE LOSE THE WAR – “WAIST DEEP IN THE BIG MUDDY” by PETE SEEGER

As I watch the protests aimed at promoting science I become wary of our chances of mobilizing the necessary resources to save the planet. WE NEED A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH that includes a PLAN “B” because Climate Change is invisible (same as today’s coronavirus challenge).

This song convinced me,  back in the day, not to go to war. Pete Seeger, who made this solo recording, was a member of a popular folk group called The Weavers.  This solo recording resonates with me. I selected this version for the “show more” description.  This song is a perfect example of the power of a song.  It literally changed my life.

EARTH DAY IS APRIL 22. TIME FOR ACTION-”NATURAL” by IMAGINE DRAGONS

I think this is an important time in life of Mankind as we know it. I’ve found a way to take action to help our planet on Earth Day.  It’s obvious saving our planet is a struggle the youth need to champion for this to suceed, Besides participating in Earth Day Online I found a group of younger people to carry on the Earth Day message. I donated too. We need to encourage any effort to formulate a way for individuals to do something.

Imagine Dragons’s song is a unique look at the kind of people that survive in today’s world. I think if you don’t know this band, you’re missing out. I selected a lyrics video.

PANDEMIC + TORNADOES = CLIMATE CHANGE – “TIME HAS COME TODAY” by THE CHAMBERS BROTHERS

Just because the coronavirus can’t be seen, that doesn’t mean it’s not a climate change issue. It’s obvious solving the pandemic and climate require the same things. I saw this interesting article today.

I found a lyrics video of this classic song. I loved this when I was still a student, and when I found out the engineer of this unbelievable use of echo, was working near me. So as a novice record producer I looked up Glen Kolotkin and co-produced many of my early works with him.

WE CAN SEE THE MOUNTAINS – “I CAN SEE FOR MILES” by THE WHO

According to many accounts the air pollution in india has decreased so much that the views of the Himalayan Mountains are possible. Here’s the article:

Himalayas come into view as empty roads let smog clear

The song “I Can See For Miles” by The Who. I chose this lyric video. It’s so Mod, The Who started and out lived their Mod beginnings and became a significant band.

EUROPE FORMULATES A PLAN FOR PLASTIC WASTE-“FAKE PLASTIC TREES” by RADIOHEAD D

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RadioheadComeback Pete encourages these companies and countries. As you can see from this article, plastic waste is a problem that the European countries and companies are trying to address:

And of course Comeback Pete is all over this Plan B thinking! Radiohead is a band you must know about! I selected the lyrics video of this song:

FACT VERSUS FICTION-“SHE BLINDED WITH SCIENCE” by THOMAS DOLBY

Science  and faith are both Mankind’s gift to the world. I see the current issues are testing both. I watch the application of both on a daily basis. I must say I hope science is given the larger voice in decisions made about me. My observations of Faith based thinking has me afraid.  Ignoring science seems as if we are ignoring the years of mankind’s achievements.

Without science a solution to any crisis is impossible.

I selected this lyrics video to explain the need for Science in our lives.  Popular music must include opinions about love to make the point: Science helps.

CITY COMPOSTING EVEN N.Y.C.-THE COMPOST SONG by ALEI BURKE

Composting seems to be a way to cut down Green House emissions (especially methane.)

This process involves decomposition of organic material (food scraps)l into a humus-like material, known as compost, which is a good fertilizer for plants. N.Y.C. is seriously looking into this process for the future. Pete likes that it starts voluntary then starts mandatory. Here’s the story in the N.Y.Times.

This could be a good blueprint for other cities. The City Council Speaker endorsed the program and the budget committee said it was an expensive outlay but a cost saver. Pete hopes it’s a planet-saver too.

Alei explains the concept in song:

WHAT CAN I DO NOW?- “NERVOUS” by THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Once you become aware of the urgent timeline around the climate topic, a sense of urgency and anxiety sets in, so many of us want to take action as quickly as possible. There is talk about reducing our carbon footprint by transforming energy systems and reducing transportation, often failing to mention the important role that waste plays in climate change mitigation.

Lessening  our own carbon emissions is an admirable goal. We may commit to riding a bike more often or to using solar energy. In addition to such efforts, we should also consider the harmful emissions associated with our consumption and disposal habits. An estimated forty percent of all global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from extracting, producing, transporting, consuming, and discarding all of the food that we buy and use.

We can reduce the demand for fossil fuels by purchasing less. We should consider products designed for a long life before they go to landfill.

 Another song about relationships:

LIVE FREE AND DIE – “DEAD” by THE UPTONES

The virus is a killer, and we don’t know enough about it. Social distance seems to  slow down the spread. The big question is to maintain this distance and lose $, or live free and die (you might just be a killer and not die yourself.) To PETE this is a no brainer. Life has no dollar amount!  To PETE it seems the people with the most to lose have become the big advocates for personal freedoms. PETE wants to know if death or freedom is the only choice? While working with The Uptones, we recorded this song about wanting to die over infidelity.

There is some gr8 singing and sax!
